Happy Birthday Bo!

After a few bad gas station choices (no matter what Katy says, say NO to chili lime almonds) Anna and I made it to Jackson late last night. I had some work to take care of this morning, then we went up to the hospital to visit Nee Nee.
I think Nee Nee’s doing a good bit better. They attached some sort of drainage pipe to her lung, so that’s helping with the fluid issue. It sounds like it’s pretty painful though, and they’ve finally put her on some pain medication.
She’s still as sharp as ever mentally though, and we had a great time listening to her tell stories. It’s amazing to hear how different things were when she was young. One of my favorite stories is from when she was in college. Her friend Annaline convinced her to go on a double date with Hector Ubinas and his friend to New Orleans. They went and ate at Court of Two Sisters. Then, for whatever reason, they didn’t make it back to Hattisburg until 2am. The catch is, curphew was 10pm, and if they got caught, they would have been “campus’d”.
Being “campus’d” wasn’t a good thing. It pretty much meant that if the house mom caught them out past 10, she’d have grounded them, and they could leave the dorm only for class (especially since Nee Nee already had 1 black mark for being caught in her other friend’s room after 10 earlier in the year). By some miracle, they snuck back in when the house mom wasn’t looking, and they never got busted. It must have been pretty scary at the time, because she remembers it like it was yesterday.
It’s just crazy how different things were. There was also a rule that dang near caused Nee Nee another black mark. She’d gone on a date with this fellow to a ball game, and hadn’t told him about this particular rule. So, when went to drop her off at the dorm, he wanted to stop and talk before she went inside. Well that’s an absolute no-no. When a guy walks you back to the dorm, you aren’t to even slow down, much less stop to talk. You have to walk straight into the house without breaking stride. I imagine this was to cut down on the ever-so-risky goodnight kiss.
Well the poor fellow tried to stop and talk. The house mom was watching this time, and yelled out from the window “June, you better keep on walking! You already have one black mark, you sure don’t need another!”. I can’t imagine why that was their last date.
We certainly do live in a different world now…the first dorm I lived in was coed. Just don’t tell Nee Nee.
If you’re lucky, maybe tomorrow I’ll get a chance to write the story of how Nee Nee met Boyd, my grandfather. It’s a good one. Oh, and remind me to tell you where the term “honky” came from. Night!

This morning Janele was on her way back to J’Ville and she heard on the radio a bunch of talk about a new quarterback that Coach Crow (JSU’s head football coach) is thinking about recruiting. Turns out that this is a huge controversy because the guy is Ryan Perrilloux, LSU’s former starting Quarterback from the national championship winning team. Ryan got kicked off the team for drugs, cheating, and a bar fight. He will fit right in with the local residents at Jacksonville Place. I just got off the phone with Skylar, who was JSU’s starting QB. I asked him what the team thought about this and he said that they didn’t care cause all they want is a championship ring. This guy is seriously downgrading! From SEC to OVC!!! (Bet you don’t know what OVC stands for) When I first heard that we are playing Georgia Tech, I laughed… But NOW I think we might have a chance. GO COCKS!

As I sit here typing this the rest of my family is running 13 miles! I am so proud of them! Last night one of my friends asked me if I was jealous that I was not there with them, Yes I am jealous that I am not there with them BUT NO I am not jealous that they had to get up and run 13 miles this morning. It is almost 11:00 and I have not received a phone call yet from any hospital in the Nashville area, that is a good sign! Today Moe, some and my friends, and I are heading to the lake. I am real excited and I know that Moe is! He is just not used to living the college life. He has woke me up at 6:00 every morning!!!!!!! I told Dad this and Dad said “WOW He is sleeping late!” He just seems a little depressed here. I think that at the Lake he will be at his 2nd home so he will be a little more used to his surroundings than here. Well, I am off to pack… for me and Moe.

Last night we had our Senior Night in Zeta. (In Zeta you are considered Alumni after you have completed 8 full semesters as an active member.) Senior Night is where all of the sisters get together and tell stories about the seniors as kinda a Goodbye. WOW! How time flies! I was thinking about the past four years, it is just crazy! All of my memories seem like it happened just the other day. Here is a picture of me, Janele, and Cumba in front of the banner that the sisters made for the seniors.

Last night, Jen and I were in Wal-Mart and we thought that it would be fun to buy those foam curlers to see what it would do in our hair. Well, I don’t know what I was thinking. When we woke up this morning and took them out of our hair, I looked like a Chia Pet! Jen’s didn’t look as bad as mine but it was not something that I would call cute! We for sure got a good laugh out of it.

OK… So here is the story… Last night after chapter, We were hanging out at my house and we were bored so I thought that it would be fun to go up on the Zeta Hall and hang out with some of the girls, so we did. While we were up there some of the new girls were talking about how now that they are initiated they want to go get a Tattoo. So I thought that it would be fun to go with them. While we were at Artistic Addictions in Anniston, Janele decided she wanted to get one. SHE DID! She got some design on her lower back. Well, after long debate they talked me into getting one. DON’T BE MAD! It is a small crown on my ankle. It can be covered up if I have to. I have always wanted one but didn’t know where to get one that would be cute. I like it so far…

O My Gosh, Words just can’t explain how much fun the past 4 days have been. I have been in Hilton Head at the Van Dee Mer Tennis Complex helping out with the Tennis portion of the Special Olympics. There were about 100 athletes from 12 different states competing. There were around the same amount of JSU Students there helping. All the athletes competed in a singles match against each other and then each athlete was paired up with a JSU student and they were doubles partners. So, I was paired up with a girl named Jen Myers from North Carolina. She was a really good player. She came determined that she was going home with the Gold! We pulled it out and she went home with 2 Gold Metals. One from singles and one from doubles. I was so proud of her.
This week I have so many funny stories and many memories. I wish I could tell you about all of the players. Just to give you a little bit of a better understanding of what this week has been like, Janele came up to me in the middle of the week and said “I feel like I am living in the movie, The Ringer!” It is so true! As I type this right now I am thinking of all the memories and I am seriously laughing out loud! These athletes are great! I had so much fun getting to know them. I wish that everyone could go and experience what I have experienced the past few days. I have some videos and many pictures, but I will have to tell you more later.
This is a picture of me and my partner Jen after we completed our doubles match.

And here is the the picture where we are receiving our medals!

Wow! I am sitting here looking at my schedule and realizing that I am going to be crazy busy this month. It is going to be a fun but busy! I leave Friday and head to Newnan for the weekend. Janele and I are taking a class where we go to Hilton Head to help with the Special Olympics. Every year about 50-75 people for Jacksonville State go to Hilton Head to do this. Each student is paired up with a participant in the Special Olympics, and we play another pair. I am extremely excited about this. I think that it is going to be a great experience. We are going there on Sunday and will be there until Thursday. Well, since we will be so close to Savannah so close to St. Pattys day we just decided to stay there until probably Friday. Then heading back to Jacksonville to pack up and meet up with the others for Spring Break ‘08. Then me, Janele, Jen, Molly and Jennifer will head to Gulf Shores on Saturday for the whole week! I am so ready for a break! I will be celebrating my 22nd at the beach. Then the following Friday or Saturday back to Newnan. I will be in Newnan for Easter and to celebrate Me and Caroline’s (and Mary Joy’s) birthdays! Then back to Jacksonville! WOW! I am getting stressed thinking about it! All this packing and unpacking is already giving me a headache! I am excited! I will keep the Blog up to date as much as possible.
