Books, Bugs, and the B & B from Hell

31 May

Wanted to post a quick update this morning before we head off to the airport for Atlanta. Yesterday was quite a contrast. We woke up in a Bed and Breakfast in Dublin and decided to go ahead and check out a day early because the place was so nasty. When we informed the staff around 8am, they said that they were going to have to charge us for both nights anyway, and we’d have to speak to the manager when they arrived. Little did we know that the manager wouldn’t “arrive” until they returned from overseas in several days.

So we left the B&B rather frustrated and hopped a tour bus to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells. It’s s really cool pictorial of the Bible done back in 800 AD. 800 AD. Get that? 800 AD. 700 years before Columbus found America, there were a bunch of guys in Ireland drawing out the Bible, and it’s still here for us to look at. So cool.

We went from Bible to beer…after Trinity College we toured the Guinness factory which was really cool until we tried the Guinness. That stuff is nasty.

After leaving there, we discovered that Anne had bed bugs from the night before. Little bites began surfacing everywhere. So we hopped on the tour bus en route back to the B&B to get our car. The most miserable bus trip I’ve ever taken…we were on the roof, it was unbelievably hot, and we got stuck in traffic for an hour & a half. It should have taken us 20 minutes. This was absolutely the lowest point on the trip…the bed bug thing was quite an issue…we actually picked one out of Jackie’s arm while on the bus.

Fast forward 5 hours, and Andy and I are in the steam room at the Marriott in Ashbourne, just north of Dublin. Quite a fortunate contrast to say the least! We ended the day wonderfully, having a phenomenal dinner at the hotel reminiscing about the trip. When dessert came, we were only on Day 6!

It’s been quite a trip, and I can’t wait to come back and show y’all the pics. Love y’all!

Quick Hello-

29 May

Hey everyone! The trip keeps getting more and more amazing as we go. Yesterday we started the day by visiting The Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland. It was super-pretty, and we all waved back home to you. It’s been the most touristy thing we’ve done so far…it cost like $12 to park, and the muzzies (mosquitos) were unbearable.

We then drove through The Burren and saw some really old rock things. There was one grave we saw that was built in 2000 BC or something. Crazy. A church & graveyard we stopped to walk around was built in the 13th Century. Old has a whole new meaning over here. You’ll just be driving down the road and spot castles and ruins that have been there for literally hundreds of years.

After lunch in Ballyvaughn we stopped at an internet cafe in Galway then drove to Clifden. We drove the “Sky Road” after checking into the B&B. It was super amazingly beautiful. Pictures don’t do it justice…the view is majestic, no matter which way you look.

We then enjoyed some fish & chips at EJ Kings in downtown Clifden. Right about the time we finished eating, the live traditional Irish music began. This is the Ireland that we’ve all heard about…it’s quite surreal.

Today we’re off to Dublin. More later! Love y’all-

Hello All!

27 May

Hey Folks! Sorry for the lack of posting…we’ve obviously had very limited internet access. We’ve had an amazing time so far, but I don’t have too much time to tell you about it yet. We spent most of Saturday visiting, Sunday shopping and driving, Monday with Michael and Jean on Cape Clear Island (soooo beautiful!), and all day today driving around the countryside. We’ve seen some stunning views…everywhere you look it’s something you’d see on a postcard. Pictures don’t do it justice, but here are a few…

I feel old.

22 May

Hey everybody!

Just thought I would update everyone a little bit. Bailey and I are loving our job! Where else can you wear a bathing suit and sarong to work! It is great. The only bad thing is we work outside all day long. Very hot and very humid!!

I am beginning to feel very old. We have been so exhausted from work that we have been going to bed around 10:00 every night. We then wake up around 7:30 every morning , drink a cup of coffee, have a little quiet time, and head to work.

Anna and Nicole are coming tonight and staying till Tuesday! We are so excited!! Hopefully we can wake up and lay out before work at 1.

Love yall and miss yall!

Mom's a Celeb!

19 May

Mom was on the radio across all of Georgia, and parts of Alabama this afternoon. She was on J 93.3, and the segment is called MeeJay 3-play. It’s where they talk to a listener, and let them pick 3 of their favorite songs to play. Enjoy…

Mom on J 93.3

Great Job Mom! We’re so proud! Oh, and thanks for the shoutout :)

Hello? Rachel?

18 May

I was a bit inspired by our successful dinner last night. So, tonight, I decided I would attempt my very first omelet. It was a bit ambitious I guess, because this is how it turned out.

Just when I start thinking that I’m good at the whole cooking thing, it’s clear that I need a little help. Oh well…that’s life I reckon. At least it tasted good.
