March

4 Mar

Wow! I am sitting here looking at my schedule and realizing that I am going to be crazy busy this month. It is going to be a fun but busy! I leave Friday and head to Newnan for the weekend. Janele and I are taking a class where we go to Hilton Head to help with the Special Olympics. Every year about 50-75 people for Jacksonville State go to Hilton Head to do this. Each student is paired up with a participant in the Special Olympics, and we play another pair. I am extremely excited about this. I think that it is going to be a great experience. We are going there on Sunday and will be there until Thursday. Well, since we will be so close to Savannah so close to St. Pattys day we just decided to stay there until probably Friday. Then heading back to Jacksonville to pack up and meet up with the others for Spring Break ‘08. Then me, Janele, Jen, Molly and Jennifer will head to Gulf Shores on Saturday for the whole week! I am so ready for a break! I will be celebrating my 22nd at the beach. Then the following Friday or Saturday back to Newnan. I will be in Newnan for Easter and to celebrate Me and Caroline’s (and Mary Joy’s) birthdays!  Then back to Jacksonville! WOW! I am getting stressed thinking about it! All this packing and unpacking is already giving me a headache! I am excited! I will keep the Blog up to date as much as possible.

good news!

Student classifications to change after each 30-hour segment
“Thus, a sophomore is a student who has completed 30 hours effective immediately.”

This is wonderful news, I will now be considered a sophomore!!! Before they changed it, you had to have 31 hours to be considered a sophomore and I was only going to have 30 therefore going into next year I was going to be considered a Freshmen. Not anymore

love you all, miss you all

DEER

4 Mar

The craziest thing just happened!!! Janele and I were taking a study break and going to go to the Grub Mart to get a snack. We pulled out of our drive way and saw 2 deer crossing our street! Most of you know, our street is in a neighborhood not really woods! It was pretty crazy! Ok, well I wish that I had my camera but I didn’t so… Sorry! Well, Guess I’m back to studying! Good Night for most of you!

Old Waverly

3 Mar

Last weekend was so fun! Me and 4 of my pledge sisters went to Old Waverly for the night before we had to be at Zeta Day in Starkville on Saturday. On the way there we took the exit in Columbus and saw tons of cops everywhere well come to find out we were in the middle of this.

Us at Old Waverly

Here is a picture of us in the condo at Old Waverly. It was really nice! Thanks Dad for getting it for us!

A Wedding Story

3 Mar

All this talk of weddings reminded me of one I went to last summer. It was a friend of mine who I worked with at the radio station that was getting married. His bride, Lovisa, and he had both gone to Vanderbilt, and were having their wedding in Nashville. He still works in baseball radio, so the wedding was to take place during the all-star break. I had just gotten settled in at Auburn, and I had a good month before I was going to be really busy, so I invited my ex-girlfriend Laura and decided to go.

As I typically do, I started looking for the invitation on Friday to get the details. It was then that I realized it was a 7pm wedding. I don’t know much about weddings, but I think that 7pm means you need to put on your fancy shoes. It took a little bit of doing, but I was able to raid a few closets in Newnan and put together a very fitting black suit ensemble that I was rather proud of.

Cheekwood Botanical Gardens

On the way to Nashville Saturday I realized I was beltless, but that was fixed with a quick trip to the mall. So, 6:45 arrives and we make our way to the beautiful Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. It was a little farther than I had anticipated (Wanda, my GPS slightly overestimated the speediness of my driving), but we still arrived at the guardshack at 6:57. I rolled down my window and the guard asked me who’s wedding I was attending. I was a bit surprised to hear that the Golder-Benbow wedding was 1 of 3 that were to take place at 7pm. July 7th, 2007, 7pm. No problem though…she handed me a map and explained that I would be driving past “Parking Lot A”, and the first wedding on the left. Then I’d go up a hill and park in “Parking Lot B”.

After a few curves we spotted wedding #1 and “Parking Lot A”. I slowly proceeded past. Up the hill I noticed another ceremony on the right, followed by “Parking Lot B”. Looking back, I should have been a bit weary of the ceremony on the right. It was a rather small looking ceremony. 20 chairs tops. We’re friends and all, but I would have a hard time believing I would have made the top 20. Regardless, we did a quick scan of the surroundings, and the one we had passed on the right was the only one in sight of “Parking Lot B”. This ceremony was taking place about 100yds from the road, and the only way to get to it was via a small paved walkway. So, Laura and I walk down said walkway towards where everyone else was sitting.

7:00pm. Laura in her fancy black dress, and me in my black suit begin walking down towards this wedding. The organist sees us and begins to play. The other guests stand and turn to look at us. It was right about now that I notice they’re all wearing khaki shorts and boat shoes. Maybe they hadn’t gotten the memo that 7pm was fancy. It appears they think we are in the wedding. We awkwardly continue down the never-ending walkway and finally grab a seat in the back (aka Row 2). By this time everyone has sat back down, and the organist has stopped playing. Puzzled looks abound. After a minute or so I notice someone beside me looking at their map, as if to make sure they’re in the right place. The top of their map says something about the Schneider wedding. I ask if they know Brad or Lovisa. “Who?”.

When 20 people chuckle at the same time, it can be heard the entire length of the never-ending walkway.

We did finally make it to the right wedding, with the right attire. So what if we had to watch them kiss while we were hiding in the bushes trying not be be seen as the obvious “super-late arriving guests”. We were able to join in the line to the reception right between the distant cousins and the grandparents. Nobody had a clue.

Thanks Joan.

2 Mar

It’s been a busy few days. I went to Birmingham on Friday for Rooks’s wedding rehersal/dinner. I got to see several of his friends that I’d met before and meet several new ones. They’re all pretty good people, and I had a great time. It was a really pretty outdoor ceremony right after sunset on top of a mountain in Birmingham. I was really glad I could be a part of it. At first I questioned the brown tux choice, but it looked a lot better than I had envisioned.

After the reception last night, I ended up packing up and heading back to Auburn so I could get a little sleep before having to work the Auburn women’s basketball game today. After the game, I watched 4 episodes of LOST (I’ll discuss this another time) and then ran 8.39 Miles. That’s right. I upped the ante a bit from last Sunday. 8.39. It felt really good. My left calf has seized up though, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to walk tomorrow. Oh, and that reminds me…I fell. Let me back up.

After the game, and somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd episode of LOST, I met a few friends at Santa Fe (one of my favorite restaurants in Auburn) for dinner. At one point they were discussing the last time they had fallen in a public place. Both of their falls had happened within the last few months. I didn’t pipe up, but I thought to myself “I don’t think I’ve fallen since the time I broke my arm in middle school”. And even that really shouldn’t count, because I was on roller blades, and it was during the “guys only” skate…so of course I had to try and show off.

Anyway, tonight I was 5.4 miles in and got careless with my footwork. Only half of my left foot caught the edge of the sidewalk, and I went tumbling to the ground. I hobbled around for a bit hoping that I wasn’t really hurt, and was soon able to jog full speed again. I think it’s alright, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a bit swollen tomorrow. Don’t worry Radar, I’ll ice it.

Joan Benoit-Samuelson

That’s Joan Benoit-Samuelson. She congratulated me on my iPod after I finished running. Apparently she used to be a big shot long distance runner in the 80’s. I guess I just wasn’t into that type thing in preschool.
