My New Friend…

I’m very ashamed to say that I’ve never really been one to give much to charity. I know, it’s a shocking realization. Apart from sending a little bit to the Red Cross after Katrina, and the American Cancer Society every year or so, I just haven’t done it. The thing is, I would like to think of myself as one who gives to charity.
Enter Kiva.org. I found this web site a week or two ago and realized that sadly, I haven’t really given to charity because it wasn’t convenient or easy. Or at least it wasn’t convenient to give to the charities that I would really feel led to give to. However, on this site, I found Mrs. Dy Savai. Ms. Savai (she said I could call her Dy, but it felt kind of weird) is a 35 year old entrepreneur somewhere in Cambodia or something like that. The thing that really made me connect with Ms. Savai is that she sells fish. I love fish! She currently makes about $2 a day, but she needed a grand to really up her earning potential and make more fish available to her customers. So…I decided to help her out a bit. The Kiva site gives me occasional updates on how her business is going, so it really makes me feel good. Plus, she’ll end up paying me back my $25, and I can give it to somebody else! Now this is what the internet was made for.
Now, don’t confuse my friend with Anna’s Friend. At least I actually did something to help mine. That’s right Anna…step it up…have you done anything for DeDe today?

This sounds great and all but it really isn’t totally helping by asking for your money back?!?!?!?!?
